Vegeta first showed up to destroy the world with his Saiyan Elite partner, Nappa. They were the last 2 Saiyan warriors except for Goku, after the Saiyan home planet was destroyed. Vegeta sent Nappa to the next dimension after he failed against Goku, then fought Goku himself. Only Goku's Keoikan technique stopped Vegeta's GalaGun from destroying the Earth, and the Spirit Bomb eventually defeated him. Goku had mercy on him, and Vegeta escaped to rejuvenate at Frieza's base, where he worked. He also went to Namek, searching for the Dragonballs, but against Frieza's orders. After hearing that Frieza had destroyed the Saiyan home planet, Vegeta vowed to destroy him. He teamed up for a while with Krillin and Gohan to fight the Ginyu force, and saved them both from the time-freezing Goldo.
